I'm Five

I know it's May, but let's pretend it's March again so I can tell you about Finn's 5th birthday.

March 13th and Finn is five! Five!  That's crazy.  When we moved to Maine he was just over two years old.  Two blinks later he's five and on his way to Kindergarten next year. Yowzers.  Time goes too fast.

To celebrate his birthday we had the usual family gathering, including Trish and Kev. Finn chose the restaurant of choice which was Gritty's in Freeport. It's a bit ironic because Gritty's is a pub and known for it's beer. Not sure if Patrick secretly had something to do with his choice.

For his official kid party - typical Finn style - he changed his mind about the theme and location about 20 times before settling on having a bowling party with a dump truck cake.  He even tried to change his mind on his way to the party, deciding that he'd actually like to have a swimming party instead of a bowling party.  We grounded him delicately explaining that same day changes are usually a bit of a planning challenge/impossibility. :)  If you remember last year's festivities, you won't be surprised to hear that Finn wanted to invite his entire class once again. Luckily bowling alleys embrace craziness and this one being candle pin bowling helped the kiddos have an extra silly time. The dump truck cake was a fabulous Patrick creation along with Trish's invites!

And for Finn on his birthday...

Dearest Finn Dog,

It's crazy your five.  You even say that you still feel like you are four.  We also can't believe your five, as that means you go to Kindergarten next year and kick-off even more adventures.  You are more than ready for these next stages, it's just hard for us to realize that you are growing up so fast. It's been such a great year for you.  You moved to a new preschool and embraced the move, making tons and tons of new friends and learning everything Lexi brought home to teach you from her Kindergarten experience.

Your favorite past times encompass everything with competition including games and sports, with hockey being the strong leader and basketball, baseball, and soccer following close behind.  Most of all you really just want to compete and create competitive games out of just about everything you do. With this comes your bad taste for losing (but we're working on the bad taste part).  You claim that you never lose, but we're teaching you to enjoy the competition regardless and you are slowly attempting to understand what the heck we're talking about.

No surprise, you still adore big sis, Lex, and you are starting to learn to accommodate Heath when you're up to it or otherwise push his buttons to get him revved up. Both your siblings adore you and you love to be the ring leader and make them giggle at your silliness.

For the first time we're seeing a mischievous  and devious side of you. You can be stubborn, stubborn and we have no idea where that came from (wink, wink).  You are trying to establish boundaries with mom and dad and we are working hard to allow you to grow while helping you to understand how to respect and treat others.

You still have the sweetest freckle face  and smile and we've crowned you the best snuggler in the family three years running. We hope you never lose that soft side which balances your fierce competitive drive nicely.

We eagerly look forward to what this next year holds for you.

We love you the mostest,

Mom and Dad
